THE CHAIRMAN OF BOARD, CHIEF MEDICAL DIRECTOR / DIPLOMATE OF OPHTHALMOLOGY / Yoshihiro Kitazawa, M.D., Ph.D.

Dr. Kitazawa is a leading person in Japan, who has gained a respectful reputation in the field of keratorefractive surgery by the use of excimer lasers. After he earned his medical degree from the Medical Department of Fukui Medical University in 1990, he engaged in research of "excimer laser vision correction" in Ophthalmology of Tokyo Medical and Dental University, and reported many research accomplishments at scientific conferences both domestically and internationally. He became a licentiate ophthalmologist in 1996, served as a lecturer at Tokyo Medical and Dental University between 1999 and 2001. He joined Kobe Kanagawa Eye Clinic (former Kanagawa Clinic) in 2000, and served concurrently as a guest lecturer at Tokyo Medical University from 2004 to 2009. He served as chief medical director of Kobe Kanagawa Eye Clinic on November 2010, and assumed the chairman of the board on February 2012.
He began PRK treatments in 1991, LASIK in 1996, and has operated over 28,000 treatments at Kanagawa Eye Clinic. He has performed the highest volume of phakic IOL (ARTISAN・ARTIFLEX) treatments and is also a top-class surgeon of Epi-LASIK and LASEK in Japan. Furthermore, he has extensive experiences of intraocular surgery, and performed 14,000 cases of cataract surgeries.

CO CHIEF MEDICAL DIRECTOR / DIPLOMATE OF OPHTHALMOLOGY / Akihiro Yasuda, M.D.

Dr. Yasuda earned his medical degree from the Medical Department of Ehime University in 1993, entered the ophthalmological department at St.Luke's Hospital, received a fellowship in cornea at the University of California, LA and joined Kobe Kanagawa Eye Clinic. He served as co chief medical director of Kobe Kanagawa Eye Clinic on November 2010.
He was certified as a licentiate ophthalmologist in 1998.
He is a specialist in corneal and intraocular treatments and has also given many of presentations and papers both domestically and internationally.

GLOBAL CHIEF MEDICAL DIRECTOR / OPTICAL EXPRESS IMAB CHAIRMAN / Steve Schallhorn, M.D.

Dr. Steve Schallhorn is internationally acknowledged as one of the most respected refractive surgeons in the world. He is the Chairman of the Optical Express International Medical Advisory Board (IMAB).
In 2007, Dr. Schallhorn retired as a Captain from the United States Navy. During his naval career he was the Director of Corneal Service and Refractive Surgery at the Naval Medical Center San Diego, created, initiated and directed the Department of Defense refractive surgery program and served as the first United States Navy Refractive Surgery Program Manager. He was the primary investigator in the sentinel studies which evaluated visual recovery and performance characteristic of PRK and LASIK before excimer lasers were FDA approved. He was the first surgeon in the United States Department of Defense to perform LASIK and PRK procedures and implant phakic intraocular lenses. Dr. Schallhorn is recognized by his peers as an expert in refractive surgery and anterior segment surgery. He is one of only a small group of excimer laser instructors in the United States. A gifted public speaker, he lectures regularly at ophthalmic meetings and educational conferences worldwide and is a visiting professor of medicine at Harvard, USC, UCSF, and Baylor Universities.
Consultant to National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), the US Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF), Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). He is an advisor for refractive surgery to Australia, Canada, France, Great Britain, Greece, Japan, New Zealand, Singapore, Taiwan and Turkey. He also has worked with all five branches of the United States Armed Forces.

Dr.Ishiyama earned his medical degree from the Medical Department of Tokyo Medical University in 1999, worked at the Tokyo Medical University Hospital and joined Kobe Kanagawa Eye Clinic.
He was certified as a licentiate ophthalmologist in 2004.

Dr.Onda has been a dedicated ophthalmologist for his entire career, having conducted more than 10,000 eye surgeries, including cataract, glaucoma, and refractive correction. His reputation for thoroughness is well known throughout the clinic. In his spare time, he plays the saxophone and he believes that his music inspires his ability in the operating room.
